Care Guide

Leather is a natural material. Looked after simply, it lasts for years and looks better for the wear. Here's how to care for each material we use.

Smooth & full-grain leather

  • Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to lift dust before it settles into the grain.
  • Let shoes rest a day between wears so the leather can dry out and recover its shape.
  • Condition two or three times a year with a neutral leather cream; buff off the excess.
  • Keep away from radiators and direct sun — heat dries leather out and cracks it.
  • If they get wet, stuff with paper and dry at room temperature, never with a hairdryer.

Suede & nubuck

  • Brush with a suede brush, always in one direction, to lift the nap back up.
  • Treat with a suede protector spray before the first wear, then re-apply each season.
  • Lift dry marks with a suede eraser; avoid water and never machine wash.
  • If they get soaked, blot with a dry cloth, dry slowly at room temperature, then re-brush.

Woven leather & raffia

  • Dust between the weave with a dry, soft brush.
  • Store with tissue inside so the shape holds and the weave doesn't collapse.
  • Keep dry — natural fibres stain and stiffen when wet.

Jute soles (espadrilles)

  • Keep jute dry; it darkens and frays if repeatedly soaked.
  • Brush off dry dirt rather than washing.

Metallic & patent finishes

  • Wipe with a slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately.
  • Avoid contact with dark denim — dye transfer onto light patent is difficult to reverse.

Bags

  • Store in the dust bag, stuffed lightly with tissue so the shape holds.
  • Don't hang bags by their straps for long periods — the handles stretch.
  • Keep hardware dry, and away from perfume and hand cream.

Rotation

The single best thing you can do is not to wear the same pair two days running. Rotating between pairs lets the lining dry fully and roughly doubles how long a shoe lasts.
